Step 1<\/h3>\n

Create a new Document<\/p>\n

50 x 50 Pixels
\nRBG mode
\nWhite background<\/p>\n

Select the entire image area: Select>all<\/p>\n

Choose Edit>Stroke<\/p>\n

Enter a setting of 2 – inside<\/p>\n

Step 2<\/h3>\n

Choose the Line tool (Under the custom shape in the toolbar)<\/p>\n

4 Pixels

\nChoose the fill pixels option from the options bar
\nTurn anti-aliasing OFF<\/p>\n

Draw a horizontal line through the middle<\/p>\n

Add another vertical line through the middle on the top half only (as shown)<\/p>\n

\"brick004\"<\/a>With the marquee tool select the outside border at the top left and delete it (press the delete key)<\/p>\n

Repeat for the right top as shown<\/p>\n

Step 3<\/h3>\n

\"brick005\"<\/a>We have now created a pattern for our bricks<\/p>\n

Select>All<\/p>\n

Edit Define Pattern and then name the pattern bricks<\/p>\n

You can now close the bricks document, we dont need it anymore<\/p>\n

\"brick006\"<\/a>Create a new Document – This is where we will use our pattern to create a wall<\/p>\n

400 x 300 Pixels (You can use any size)
\nRBG mode
\nWhite background<\/p>\n

Choose the channels palette and create a new alpha channel<\/p>\n

Choose edit>Fill<\/p>\n

Select pattern and find our bricks pattern<\/p>\n

Step 5<\/h3>\n

Here is the basic brick pattern applied to the channel.<\/p>\n

Can you believe this is where some tutorials end? Not this one, lets make some texture and depth<\/p>\n

Step 6<\/h3>\n

We are going to round the corners of the bricks<\/p>\n

Choose Filter>Blur>Gausian Blur<\/p>\n

Step 7<\/h3>\n

Now choose Image>Adjustments>Levels<\/p>\n

Move the sliders closer to gether to create the hard edges, rounded corners<\/p>\n

The shape is now complete – Depth time<\/p>\n

Step 8<\/h3>\n

Choose Filter>Gaussian blur<\/p>\n

Blur it so that the edges are still visable but the bricks are kind of gray. This is going to nake the bricks look rounded in 3D space<\/p>\n

Click OK and then DONT TOUCH ANYTHING!<\/p>\n

Step 9<\/h3>\n

Choose Edit>Fade (If you touched anything since the last step this is not avaliable)<\/p>\n

Choose 80% and Linear Burn<\/p>\n

Notice the blur will blend into the shape of the bricks<\/p>\n

Fianl part of the texture preperation<\/p>\n

Choose Filter>Noise>Add Noise<\/p>\n

Use 12% or less, we just want a hint<\/p>\n

Choose the layers palette and click on the background to return to the normal display thumbnail<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Select 50% gray for the foreground and white for the background colors<\/p>\n

Choose the linear gradient tool<\/p>\n

Drag the gradient tool from the bottom to the top of the image to create a gradient<\/p>\n

Step 12<\/h3>\n

Choose Filter>Render>Lighting effects (Enter the settings shown)<\/p>\n

Choose the Alpha 1 from texture channel to load our bricks texture<\/p>\n

Select a spotlight and choose a brick red color from the top color picker<\/p>\n

Click ok<\/p>\n

Step 13<\/h3>\n

We now have a pretty good brick texture, but lets take it futher…<\/p>\n

Open the channels palette<\/p>\n

Hold down the ctrl\/Cmd key and click on the alpha 1 thumbnail – You should see a selection around the shapes of the bricks<\/p>\n

Step 14<\/h3>\n

Return to the layers palette<\/p>\n

Make sure the Background is active by clicking on the thumbnail<\/p>\n

With the selection (Bricks outline) still active Press Ctrl\/Cmd + J -This will copy the bricks to a new layer<\/p>\n

\nChoose the background and select Image>Adjustments>Hue\/Saturation<\/p>\n

Move the saturation slider to the left to reduce the color of the mortar to a nice gray<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Step 15<\/h3>\n

As a final touch add a drop shadow to the top layer<\/p>\n

Choose the eraser tool and make the brush one of the “splatter” presets<\/p>\n

Dab the edges of the bricks to erode them a little bit.<\/p>\n

There you have your realistic bricks!!!!<\/p>\n
