Press &#8220;D&#8221; to set default foreground and background colors. You will have to experiment to find the best settings for your image size and intensity of the effect, here we used: Balance 40, Smooth 14, Light &#8211; Top Left.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/step-5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1202\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/step-5.jpg\" alt=\"step-5\" width=\"117\" height=\"145\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Step 6<\/h3>\n<p>The result should resemble this<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/step-5-results.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1203\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/step-5-results.jpg\" alt=\"step-5-results\" width=\"200\" height=\"121\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Step 7<\/h3>\n<p>To define the edges a bit more: Filter &gt; Sharpen &gt; Unsharp Mask: Amount 500, Radius 1.0, Threshold 0.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/step-6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1204\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/step-6.jpg\" alt=\"step-6\" width=\"111\" height=\"151\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Step 8<\/h3>\n<p>Select the magic-wand tool, Check the contiguous box on the options bar.<br \/>\nSet the appropriate tolerance setting, we used 10. Now select the background around the drops.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 9<\/h3>\n<p>Hit the del key to erase the unwanted background. Invert the selection to the drops. Select &gt; Inverse or Mac:Cmd+Shift+I \/ PC:Ctrl+Shift+I. You should now see the original image and the drops.<\/p>\n<p>If you wanted the image to appear as if mercury had been spilled on it you can stop right here. For the water &#8211; proceed&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/step-8.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1205\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/step-8.jpg\" alt=\"step-8\" width=\"200\" height=\"121\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Step 10<\/h3>\n<p>To make the drops look more like water change the layer blending mode to soft light.<\/p>\n<p>We now have an image that looks like water drops on it. But lets have some fun and give it that lens-type distortion typical to real water drops<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/step-9.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1210\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/step-9.jpg\" alt=\"step-9\" width=\"200\" height=\"133\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Step 11<\/h3>\n<p>With the drops still selected, click the background layer on the layers palette to activate the background layer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/step-9b1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1207\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/step-9b1.jpg\" alt=\"step-9b\" width=\"105\" height=\"91\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Step 12<\/h3>\n<p>Make the distortion: Filter &gt; Distort &gt; Spherize. 35% (experiment to find what best works for you.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/step-10.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1208\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/step-10.jpg\" alt=\"step-10\" width=\"114\" height=\"201\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Step 13<\/h3>\n<p>You now have an image that looks like it was left out in the rain with realistic water drops.
