Facial recognition is used to identify that its a face and then who that face is. As we group the faces and name them, Lightroom gets smarter.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sPWKG_n1W8I?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0\" width=\"853\" height=\"480\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<script src=\"https:\/\/apis.google.com\/js\/platform.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n<div class=\"g-ytsubscribe\" data-channel=\"photoshopCAFE\" data-layout=\"full\" data-count=\"default\"><\/div>\n<p>When you first go the faces view (O key) Lightroom will ask you if you want to turn on auto face detection, which will run the process in the background while you are working, \u00a0or if you want to, you can manually do it on demand.\u00a0These options can always be changed by selecting or deselecting Face Detection in the Identity Plate.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-9366 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces151.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 349px) 100vw, 349px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces151-300x194.jpg 300w, http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces151.jpg 349w\" alt=\"faces15\" width=\"349\" height=\"226\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When you begin, go to face view by pressing \u201co\u201d\u00a0on the keyboard or clicking the image of the face<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9365\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces011.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 441px) 100vw, 441px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces011-300x29.jpg 300w, http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces011.jpg 441w\" alt=\"faces01\" width=\"441\" height=\"43\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Lightroom will go through your catalog looking for faces.<\/p>\n<p>When it has found them, it will load them up into stacks under \u201cUnnamed People\u201d. \u00a0You will initially find that there are several stacks of the same people. \u00a0You will also get some \u201cfalse positives\u201d these are images that aren\u2019t in fact people. Press the delete key to remove them from faces view, they won\u2019t be deleted, just removed from this view.<\/p>\n<p>You will now start to identify the faces. Click on the ? and type in the name. Press Shift+Enter to apply. As you start to add more names, you will see auto suggest to help you.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9356\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces07.jpg\" alt=\"faces07\" width=\"182\" height=\"327\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As you start to identify the faces, they will be moved into a Named People Section. You can speed up the process by dragging stacks from the unnamed into the names and they will be added to the stacks.<\/p>\n<p>Tip: Ctrl+Click and drag several stacks at a time to save time.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9352\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces03.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces03-300x154.jpg 300w, http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces03-778x400.jpg 778w, http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces03.jpg 800w\" alt=\"faces03\" width=\"800\" height=\"411\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You will see that as you start to work, Lightroom will start to guess who the people are. The more you work, the smarter it gets.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9355\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces06.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces06-538x400.jpg 538w, http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces06.jpg 800w\" alt=\"faces06\" width=\"800\" height=\"594\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When you roll over a suggestion, you can click one of the 2 options to accept or reject the suggestion. When you accept the suggestion, the image will be added to the Named\u00a0faces stack.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9360\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces11.jpg\" alt=\"faces11\" width=\"116\" height=\"36\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once you have finished tagging all the images, you will need to check the stacks to make sure that it\u2019s correct. You can double click on the stack or press S to open it. You can also long press the S key to open the stack, when you release the key, it will collapse the stack again.<\/p>\n<p>Here is an example of the images inside a stack.\u00a0If you scroll down to the bottom of the stack, you will see \u201csimilar\u201d faces where Lightroom suggests other photos that might contain the Confirmed person.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9354\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces05.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces05-300x153.jpg 300w, http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces05-784x400.jpg 784w, http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces05.jpg 800w\" alt=\"faces05\" width=\"800\" height=\"408\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At the bottom of the faces view is a dropdown list of different ways to sort the suggested faces. This can really help speed up the process.<\/p>\n<p>Just bear in mind that you are going to have to put aside a little time to set all this up as it\u2019s not all automatic, although Lightroom will do most of the heavy lifting for you.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-9351 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces02.jpg\" alt=\"faces02\" width=\"130\" height=\"63\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Manually tagging faces<\/h3>\n<p>You can also do manual tagging, or draw a face region in loupe view.<\/p>\n<p>Click on the faces tool at the bottom of the loupe<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces12.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9361\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces12.jpg\" alt=\"faces12\" width=\"109\" height=\"47\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now Click and drag over the face to define a region.\u00a0Lightroom will offer a suggestion of who it thinks the face is.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9358\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces09.jpg\" alt=\"faces09\" width=\"628\" height=\"706\" srcset=\"https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces09.jpg 628w, https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces09-600x675.jpg 600w, https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces09-266x300.jpg 266w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 628px) 100vw, 628px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click on the tab and click the checkmark or the no symbol and type in the correct name.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9359\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces10.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces10-711x400.jpg 711w, http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/faces10.jpg 800w\" alt=\"faces10\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once you have added all the tags, the\u00a0overlays\u00a0can be shown or hidden on the individual images by toggling the faces button.
