Learn how to convert a photo to a cartoon, This Photoshop tutorial has three steps to create a retro comic book effect.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Halftone dots<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Inked outlines<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>And flat colors to replicate a comic book effect<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This step by step tutorial makes it nice and easy.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eZX-YJzsRGk?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0\" width=\"853\" height=\"480\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h3>Reducing colors<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Start with \u00a0a photograph and duplicate the background layer 2x\u00a0, just hitting Ctrl J or that would be Command J to make a copy. Select them both, right click, and then choose Group from Layers, or you can hit Ctrl\/Command G for Group. Pop Dots<\/h3>\n<p>Now, the next thing that we want to do is we want to apply these little dots on there so that it looks like it&#8217;s been printed at a low line screen.\u00a0Take the group, right click, and choose\u00a0convert \u00a0to a Smart Object.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-15102 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Screen-Shot-2016-07-31-at-12.38.39-PM.jpg\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2016-07-31 at 12.38.39 PM\" width=\"210\" height=\"140\" srcset=\"https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Screen-Shot-2016-07-31-at-12.38.39-PM.jpg 210w, https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Screen-Shot-2016-07-31-at-12.38.39-PM-100x67.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 210px) 100vw, 210px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>5.<\/h3>\n<p>Now we can apply filters to it. So let&#8217;s add those little dots that make it look like it&#8217;s been printed on a page. So we&#8217;re going to go into Filter&gt;Pixelize&gt;Color Halftone. Now, there&#8217;s no interactive display on this. You can&#8217;t actually see what&#8217;s happening as we do it, but right now, the maximum radius is set to 8 pixels. We can blend it with the original image\u00a0under the Smart Filter that we&#8217;ve created.<\/p>\n<p>See that little smart filter in the Layers panel? Inked Outlines<\/h3>\n<p>All right, we&#8217;re almost there. The only thing that&#8217;s really missing right now are those outlines that define the detail of our super hero.<br \/>\nGo\u00a0back to our background layer. Clean up the line art<\/h3>\n<p>We want to go in and use levels. Hit Ctrl\/Command+L, and we want to do it right on the layer. We could do it as adjustment layer, but in this case, I&#8217;m going to do it on the\u00a0layer. Grab the midtones, that little gray slider, and as we pull that over to the left, notice it&#8217;s going to start to reduce the detail significantly.
